The University of Montana announced earlier today that soccer Head Coach Chris Citowicki is leaving his position at Montana.

KPAX's Kyle Hansen was the first to report it.

Winning has been the common denominator for Citowicki's 8-year stint at Montana. Citowicki racked up 79 wins, 5 Big Sky Conference regular season Championships, and 4 postseason titles. He was named the 2023 Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year and received respect and admiration from those within the athletic department as well.

I heard that Citowicki and Washington State were working on a deal earlier this week, but due to my affiliation with the University of Montana, I couldn't report on it. But what I can say is selfishly, I am bummed to see Citowicki leave for Pullman.

Happy for him and his family and the new opportunity, but sad because we won't get to work with a great coach and a great guy. I hope Coach Citowicki is comfortable with me sharing this, but he emailed several people in the UM athletic department today because he wanted us to hear from him first that the deal was final.

He thanked all of us for the work we've put into the Grizzly Soccer program during his time in Missoula.

Right back at you, coach. We'll be following Washington State Soccer from here on out.
