Missoula Marathon Generates $5 Million for Local Economy

This year's Missoula Marathon brought in some serious money to the local Missoula economy. Destination Missoula informed us via press release that the 2026 Marathon brought in over $5 million "in direct economic impact for the Missoula community."

"This year's economic impact reflects much more than a successful race weekend—it demonstrates that Missoula has firmly established itself as one of the country's premier running destinations." - Missoula Marathon Race Director Trisha Drobek

It was a record for the Missoula Marathon weekend, blowing the estimated impact ($4.2 million) out of the water.

"People travel from around the world to experience our incredible community, beautiful course, and unmatched volunteer spirit," said Drobek.

"Every year we continue to build Missoula's reputation not only as a bucket-list marathon destination, but also as a place people want to visit, explore, and return to throughout the summer. It's a win for our runners, our local businesses, and our entire community."

Thousands of visitors came to our hotels, shops, and restaurants, providing a big boost to our economy. Here's some more data provided by the Missoula Marathon:

Saturday Hotel Occupancy: 92.8%
Friday Hotel Occupancy: 92.6%
Thursday Hotel Occupancy: 88.1%
Total Hotel Room Nights (Thursday–Sunday): 12,187
Approximately 45% of participants traveled from beyond the local area and stayed overnight.
An estimated 40% of participants flew to Missoula
