Brawl Of The Wild: Montana Vs. Montana State Rivalry Overview

We have under 100 days to the college football season. Saturday, August 23rd begins the 2025 CFB season with a handful of FCS and FBS games.

The opening slate includes a couple of Big Sky Conference teams - UC Davis @ Mercer and Tarleton State @ Portland State.

The marquee game of the weekend is Iowa State @ Kansas State, simply because the game takes place in Ireland.

ESPN has its eyes on Montana

ESPN published an article looking at the top 10 storylines headed into the college football season. Within the 10 storylines, ESPN ranked its top 10 best games to watch this season.

Checking in at #7 is the Brawl of the Wild/Cat-Griz/Griz-Cat/Montana VS Montana State.

It's hard to beat Brawl of the Wild under any circumstances, but after dropping three of its past five games (and watching rival MSU storm to the national title game), Montana went big in the portal, adding four FBS power-conference transfers. This one could determine a top FCS playoff seed. -ESPN

I have a couple of thoughts on the description above...

1) It seems pretty generic and I'm curious how much investigative journalism went into this piece. This seems like some national reporter just filled in a rivalry they know of with some pretty vanilla descriptors but I digress.

2) How come they didn't mention Montana playing for a National Championship, literally not figuratively, 2 years ago? Hmmm, very interesting. Yes, I'm salty.

The Griz will get MSU at home on Saturday, November 22nd, to close out the regular season.
