It was a tough weekend for the Missoula Paddleheads, who were bounced from the Pioneer Baseball League playoffs in two games against the Glacier Range Riders. The Paddleheads have had the best record over the last three seasons, but they will have to wait another year for their first championship since 2021.

There is some good news though. Former Missoula Paddlehead opening day starter Zach Penrod was called up to the Major Leagues earlier this week.

[UPDATE: Penrod appeared on Wednesday, September 18 and pitched another scoreless inning. He's now up to 2.2 innings in 3 appearances.]

The most interesting part of the story is how quickly Penrod shot up the ranks. "On August 17th (2023), after being one of the top pitchers in the Pioneer League with an ERA of 2.98, the Boston Red Sox bought his contract from the PaddleHeads and he joined the Red Sox Minor League System," said the PBL. Going from Indy ball to the Bigs in a little over a year is insanely quick.

Good for you, Zach. Keep on plugging away!
