Last weekend's exhilarating 46-35 win was a rollercoaster that saw the Griz fall behind 17-0 and 27-14 before scoring 32 of the game's final 40 combined points. For their efforts, the Griz moved up to #8 in the FCS Top 25 polls.

Preseason football is behind us. Now, it's on to Big Sky Conference play. To open the conference slate, the Montana Grizzlies travel to Cheney, Washington to take on the Eastern Washington Eagles (1-3). The Griz have controlled the regional rivalry for the most part. Montana has never won on the Red Turf at Roos Field.

The stadium opened in 1967 per Spokane Historical. Originally known as Woodward Field, the playing surface featured plain, boring, green grass. It wasn't a big deal for the Griz, who went 10-6 on EWU's green grass field. But then EWU decided to ignite their field a bright, loud red. After former Eagle Michael Roos donated half a million dollars to stadium renovation funds the field was renamed Roos Field. The name change, however, was the most discreet alteration.

Since the red turf (nicknamed The Inferno) was installed in 2010 the Montana Grizzlies have gone 0-6 at Roos Field. That includes the first-ever game played on The Inferno on September 18, 2010, when Eastern Washington beat the Griz 36-27. The last time Montana played in Cheney was October of 2021 when the Griz lost a 34-28 affair against the then-ranked #6 Eagles.
