Let me just say this right off the bat: I am truly sorry if you're a New York Mets fan. It's been a bad year for the Metropolitans. Not only are the Mets tied for the worst record in the NL East at 34-47, but their payroll is a whopping $329 million. Heck, Juan Soto is getting $61 million a year on his own.

Woof.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza was let go by the ballclub on Friday, and New York named a former Missoula Osprey as the interim manager.

Andy Green to manage the Mets

Former big leaguer and Osprey Manager Andy Green will take the helm for the remainder of 2026. Green spent one season as the manager of the Missoula Osprey in 2012. The Osprey won the Pioneer League Championship back when they were a Diamondbacks affiliate.

The Osprey was one of Green's first stops in his playing career, too. Green played 23 games in 2000 for the Osprey before a four-year career with the Diamondbacks and Mets.

Green parlayed the championship into a promotion to the Double-A Mobile BayBears. Green found success there, too, reaching the Southern League Finals in year one, followed by another playoff appearance.

Eventually, Andy Green made his way to manage at the big league level, taking over for the San Diego Padres in 2016. He spent 3+ years with the Padres, but never finished higher than 4th place in the NL West.

Green was replaced by Rod Barajas in September 2019, and he hasn't been a manager since.

Fun fact: The 2012 Osprey team had a few big leaguers on the roster, including Jake Lamb, Andrew Velazquez, Michael Perez, and Socrates Brito (yes, his name is Socrates Brito).
