Home sweet home! Our University of Montana Grizzlies will return to Washington-Grizzly Stadium on Saturday night and it could not have come at a better time. You know the feeling when you go to a long summer camp and you just can’t wait to leave because you miss home? Well, I think that’s how the Griz must feel after losing two games in a row to top 5 ranked teams.

How Did We Get Here?

The Griz are now 5-3 on the season after starting 5-0. Their first loss was an unexpected one against Idaho at home and that game already feels like it was a lifetime ago. The Griz then hit the road to face the now-ranked No. 2 and No. 5 teams in the country. Montana lost a heartbreaker in overtime to Sacramento State and then dropped a close one to Weber State.

However, Montana needs to put those games behind them and focus on the task at hand. They are set up for a perfect get-right game against the 1-7 Cal Poly Mustangs who have had their own struggles this season.

On paper, the Griz heavily outmatch the Mustangs in almost every category except one. Cal Poly has the nation's third-best passing offense, averaging 320 yards per game through the air. But they are facing a hungry Griz defense that doesn’t allow a lot of yards or points at home.

Under the Lights

The game on Saturday with be played under in the lights, which is a welcome sight for the Griz because they are 10-2 all-time in night games played at Washington-Grizzly Stadium. This is still the same Montana team that was near the top of the national rankings in the first half of the season and there is still time to turn things around. A deep playoff run is still possible, but it starts with a win on Saturday night.

How to Watch and Listen

The Griz return to prime time on the Montana Television Network this week with the game airing on CBS stations around the state (KPAX in Missoula). The game will also be streamed nationwide without blackout on ESPN+, with a subscription required.

"Voice of the Griz" Riley Corcoran and analyst Greg Sundberg will bring you the action live from Missoula right here on KGVO, the flagship station of the Grizzly Sports Radio Network. You can listen to the game on 98.3 FM, AM 1290, online at newstalkkgvo.com, or on the FREE KGVO App.

"Grizzly Gameday" starts two hours before kickoff each Saturday with the official pregame radio show featuring our own Denny Bedard and Scott Gurnsey, who then throw to Corcoran and Sundberg 30 minutes before kickoff. Bedard and Gurnsey will also host the official post-game show.

Griz for Kids Toy Drive

Don’t forget that the Griz for Kids Toy Drive is this week as well. Bring new, unwrapped toys to the game Saturday night. There will be donation tables at every entrance and cash donations are also gladly accepted.
