Kai Johnson Discusses Griz-Cat And His Camcorder

The Montana Grizzlies Men's Basketball squad is back on the road this weekend to take on the archnemeses Montana State. The Griz are on an 8-game winning streak. Win number 2 was against the Bobcats of MSU and Griz senior guard Kai Johnson poured in a great day back on January 25.

Johnson finished with a game-high 25 points - a season-high against a Division I foe.

"Getting to the rim and getting easy shots gets me going," Johnson said of his big day VS the Cats. "And then finding mid-range, finding teammates out of that makes us really hard to guard."

The 77-70 win over MSU was Johnson's first taste of Griz-Cat, but said he's played in a similar atmosphere in his high school days.

"In high school, we had some rivalry games with some pretty big student sections that got pretty loud, pretty intense, but it was definitely nothing compared to the Cats VS Griz game."

For the record, Johnson's Olympia High School's rivals were Curtis High School in Tacoma, Washington, and he split with them yearly.

Back to his college days, Johnson was placed into the starting lineup against the Cats for the first time since early in the non-conference slate. It did wonders because Johnson has played well over the last 3 weeks.

"I think coming into the starting lineup is just more of a normal thing for me. Makes me a little more comfortable for me just because I've been starting games for most of my career. I think that MSU game got me in a groove and since then it's been continuing for sure."
