Former NHL Player Scott Niedermeyer Is Visting Missoula… Find Out Why
The NHL Playoffs are about a month away, with plenty of great storylines. None better than Alexander Ovechkin pursuing The Great One, Wayne Gretzky for the goals scored in a career record.
Ovechkin's career has spanned 20 years, beginning back in 2005, sharing the ice with one Scott Niedermeyer for 5 NHL seasons. The two all-time greats faced off only 4 times during the 5 seasons. Ovechkin's Washington Capitals went 3-1 against Niedermeyer's Anaheim Ducks, FYI.
The playing career of Ovechkin continues on, while Niedermayer is giving back to the community of Missoula.
Scott Niedermayer in Missoula
The NHL Hall of Famer is hosting "An Evening with Scott Niedermayer" at Glacier Ice Rink.
Join Glacier Ice Rink for a special night with Hockey Hall of Famer Scott Niedermayer! Enjoy a barbecue dinner, no-host bar, silent auction, raffles, and an exclusive presentation from one of hockey's all-time greats.
Glacier Ice Rink is bringing in Scott Niedermeyer this Saturday, March 29th at 6 pm. Niedermayer's presentation will run you $50 to get in the door with all proceeds helping out Glacier Ice Rink's renovations.
For Niedermeyer, this was a great way to give back to Missoula, a community he feels familiar with.
"Growing up in Cranbrook (Canada) it was a similar kind of atmosphere - little bit smaller town in the mountains," Niedermayer explained to me.

After a few conversations with some Missoulians, Niedermayer offered up his help.
"Is there any way I can help? Can I do anything?," Niedermayer asked the organizers.
"As a hockey player, I think anywhere that can give that opportunity to people and kids to go out and play and get on the ice, I think that's an awesome thing. I was happy to lend a bit of my time to go down and help out."
Niedermayer is running a pair of clinics this Saturday. One for adults from 1:30 - 2:30 and a youth clinic from 3-4. You will have trouble finding a spot in the full adult clinic, but there are still slots in the youth clinic.
The evening begins at 6 pm at the Home Arts Building on the Missoula County Fairgrounds. Go have dinner, look at the silent auction, get in on raffles and hear from Niedermayer himself.
