The University of Montana Grizzlies got back in the win column last weekend and we hope it is the start of a streak. The Griz absolutely dominated the Cal Poly Mustangs 57-0 and it could not have come at a better time. The field was covered in snow for most of the game, but that didn’t slow Montana down at all. However, it was clearly too much to handle for Cal Poly who remain winless in the Big Sky Conference.

This week, the Griz will face a familiar foe on our home turf at 1:00 p.m. The Eastern Washington Eagles are leaving their nest and coming to Washington-Grizzly Stadium for what should be a fierce battle. Montana enters that game with a 6-3 record overall and a 3-3 record in the Big Sky Conference. EWU is currently 2-7 overall and 1-5 in the BSC. This isn’t the type of season either program expected to have, especially for the Eagles.

Not the Eagles We Are Used to

Eastern Washington played two FBS money games this year and the opposing team got what they paid for. They were blown out 70-14 by Oregon and 52-17 to Florida. In addition to those brutal matchups, the Eagles had to play four ranked Big Sky teams and lost all four. Their only conference win this year was against the same Cal Poly team the Griz destroyed last weekend.

This clearly isn’t the same Eastern Washington team that has given the Griz problems in years past, but record books typically get thrown out the window when these two teams meet. Montana has to win this game if they want to make the playoffs and Eastern Washington would love nothing more than to play spoiler on Saturday.
