Meet the Griz – Chloe Seelhoff, Montana’s Rising Soccer Star
Meet the Griz is a series that tells the stories of Montana Grizzlies athletes, coaches, and contributors.
Meet the Griz: Leading Goal Scorer Chloe Seelhoff
Entering year number 2, Griz soccer star Chloe Seelhoff has fully settled into Missoula. The former Washington Husky notched six goals in her first season with the Griz and two more this season.
But she could easily have 4-5 already after coming oh-so-close on a couple of encounters like banging one off the crossbar against Baylor on Sunday.
Fast forward to 1:32 to see the near goal.
"I was honestly just shocked," Seelhoff said after being denied by the crossbar again.
"There's actually a picture of it that's on [gogriz.com], and I'm laughing in it because I was just like 'Are you kidding me?"
The close calls won't cut it for Seelhoff. She's already back in the lab working on certain aspects to ensure she's finding the back of the net, instead of the crossbar.
"It's such a niche thing to practice, but what I was working on today is kind of dribbling at, like, very high speed because that's usually when I'm shooting from distance," explained Seelhoff. "Being able to set my feet at the right place, and then lean over the ball, so if even if it does, like, rise, it starts at a lower point."
Despite being the team's top goal scorer, there's always something to improve on.
Seelhoff credits a lot of her success at UM to assistant coach Ashley Herndon.
"Yeah, Ash is awesome. She has helped me immensely, and I tell her that all the time. Since I got here, she has helped my confidence kind of skyrocket."
Seelhoff and I also cover which Griz soccer coaches are athletic, getting nervous going into a match, how this team compares to last year's team, and more. Listen to our full interview above.
