Montana vs. Oregon State: The Complete Series History

The season will be turned up to 11 beginning this weekend at Oregon State, as the Montana Grizzlies will try to pull off the FCS-over-FBS upset.

Oregon State Owns All-Time Series

Oregon State has a major advantage over the Grizzlies in the all-time series. OSU has a 12-2-2 record against Montana and is 2-0-1 all-time in Corvallis.

All but three of those matchups occurred in or before 1950, when the two schools were together in the Northwest Intercollegiate Athletic Association, a conference that included Washington, Washington State, Oregon, Oregon State, Idaho, Whitman College, and the Griz.

Oddly enough, Montana has been shut out eight times in the 16 all-time meetings. Take it with a grain of salt, because every shutout came before 1950, when offenses weren't firing on all cylinders like they do today.

The only two Griz victories in the series came in the last two matchups in 1990 (22-15 Montana win) and in 1996 (35-14 win).

Griz quarterback Brian Ah Yat threw two touchdowns, and Josh Branen ran in two more. Blaine McElmurry poured in a fantastic day with 11 tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception. Joe Lehman racked up two sacks.
