Butte’s Tommy Mellott Could Be The NFL’s Next Jack Of All Trades
Typically, I won't write about many Montana State Bobcats, but I'm making an exception for Touchdown Tommy Mellott.
Mostly because Tommy is a Montanan (from Butte), even if he is a Cat at heart, we still appreciate the Montanan in him and wish him good luck in the NFL with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Tommy signed his first NFL contract with the Raiders earlier this week.
MontanaSports.com reported that Mellott's deal will earn him over $4.3 million over four years.
Mellott played quarterback at Montana State, obviously, but it seems that Mellott will play wide receiver with the Raiders.
But Mellott may not be limited to just one position.
Athlon Sports reported that the Raiders see him as a multi-use guy.
I wouldn't pigeonhole him right now. I would say we view him as a receiver that's going to have a lot of value in the kicking game, potentially as a returner, as a cover player, maybe play some quarterback, too. We're looking (at him) really as an athlete/receiver, but he's a unique guy," Raiders College Scouting Director Brandon Yeargan told Athlon Sports.
A lot of comparisons have been made to former New England Patriot Julian Edelman.

Edelman was a quarterback at Kent State before transitioning to a wide receiver with the Patriots.
It'll be interesting to see if/when Tommy plays and how he will be used on the gridiron.
