What you Actually Need in Your New UM Dorm
Move-in Day to the University of Montana dorms is coming soon. Both parents/guardians and students will always remember their well and all the emotions. It’s the start of a new chapter and for most, it’s their first time living away from their parents/guardians.
University housing offices give students a list of things that are recommended for move-in day, however, I don’t think that the list has EVERYTHING you need so here are some things I wish I bought sooner than later as a first-year moving into the dorms.
Coffee Maker
I spent so much of my meal plan on coffee, but I saved so much money when I got my own coffee maker.
Microwave
Dining choices close around eight, but sometimes a midnight snack is needed. A microwave is great because it’s easy to make a Cup of Noddles or Mac and Cheese.
Mini Fridge
Best investment I ever made. Even in my “big-kid apartment” I still have my mini fridge.
Water Filter
I invested in a Britta Water Filter and it was super helpful. Dorms don’t always have sinks in their rooms so it’s good to have a Britta Water Filter so you can have a gallon of water in your room at all times and it is filtered
Poster Putty/Command Hooks
Tape doesn’t work well when hanging photos and posters because the tape loses its stick. Thumb tacks leave holes which could lead to charges at the end of the school year. Poster putty is a happy medium. Command hooks are great for hanging up fairy lights or Christmas lights
Everyone is different and needs different things. This is just a small list I thought I would share of things that really worked for me during my first year.
