Many skiers in Montana enjoy exploring the backcountry and hiking outside of the boundaries to find more technical expert terrain. Those areas are difficult to access and are meant for highly-skilled skiers and riders.

A recently shared video on the Big Sky Resort Facebook page shows a group of skiers and snowboarders hiking out of bounds to the Headwaters and A to Z chutes. The Headwaters is very steep and highly technical and is considered triple black diamond expert terrain. Big Sky Ambassador and Freeride World Tour Athlete Chance Lenay describes it as " the gnarliest stuff out there."
