With almost 170 thousand miles, being on the water is a way of life here in Big Sky Country. Whether fishing, floating, kayaking, or rafting, being on the water is a popular pastime, especially during the summer.

Some of the more popular rivers in the state include the Bitterroot, Blackfoot, Clark Fork, Gallatin, Madison, Missouri, and Yellowstone. However, one river stands out entirely on its own.

Which Montana River is the world's shortest?

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the little waterway known as the Roe River is just over 200 feet and is located in Giant Springs State Park near Great Falls. 

Over the years, folks have debated this in and out of the United States. Some claim that the world's shortest river is the D River in Oregon, however, that river is more than twice as long as the Roe. Recently, there has been a claim that a river in the Republic of Abkhazia is the world's shortest, however, we're sticking with the Roe.
