Top 10 Golf Courses in Montana: Where to Play Next?
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - As an avid yet casual golfer, I’ve always enjoyed exploring new courses. Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of playing at several courses throughout Montana and California. I've also played in Hawaii and Arizona.
Out of all the places I’ve played, Montana seems to offer the most variety. One of the things I love most about golfing in Montana is how the courses seem to blend seamlessly with their natural surroundings. From rolling hills to dramatic mountain backdrops, every swing feels different.

Missoula is a great example of this. Most people are shocked to hear that our tiny valley has seven different courses. And boy are they all different from each other. The University of Montana is a small but challenging nine-hole course with very narrow fairways. The Missoula Country Club and the Ranch Club are the two private courses in the area and they are both very different from each other, but both are always in great shape.
My favorite course is Canyon River out in East Missoula. It’s pricey compared to the other public courses around, but it’s worth it to me. Highlands is a course I don’t play often, but I always enjoy it when I do. When I want to work on my short game and par 3’s, Linda Vista is the place to be. Larchmont might be the most convenient place to place seeing as how it is right across the street from our office.

Again, I love that all of these courses are unique and offer their own challenges. I can say the same for other courses I have played around the state. No course has been the same. It also got me thinking that I want to explore more courses in the Treasure State. So, I did a little research to figure out what the 10 best courses are in Montana.
I compiled a list and was surprised to learn that I’ve only played one of the courses. Spoiler, it was course number 9. I’ve played this course many times and love the challenges it offers. I played one of my best rounds there and also one of my worst.
Now the next step is to try to play the other nine. My friends and I always talk about wanting to take golf trips in the summer, but we never know where we should play. This list gives us some great options to choose from. If you’ve played any of these courses, let us know in the comments, or message us on the app, where we should go first.
