Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - The Missoula County Attorney’s Office filed 16 new felony complaints this week, which is one less than last week and right around the weekly average. County Attorney Matt Jennings has the numbers.

“This week, we had five violent crimes, four endangerment crimes, only one property crime, four drug crimes, and two administrative crimes,” Jennings said. “We really focus on domestic violence, and a lot of the violent crimes that we see are related to family violence. This week, we didn't have family violence. That's great. Certainly, we don't want to make one week seem like some sort of trend, but we only had one last week too.”

Jennings added that there were three high-speed car chases this week.

“Each of these was very terrifying and had speeds reaching 120 MPH,” Jennings said. “Each of them was alcohol or drug-related. One of them included a driver ramming another vehicle on the road on purpose. When the victim's vehicle pulled over to see what was going on, he drove his vehicle at her, hitting her, causing other injuries. Then he fled from that.”

According to Jennings, this is just one of the many reasons they take DUIs so seriously.

“Despite some of our fears on things like home invasions or school shootings, really the number one way that somebody might get hurt through an act of violence or crime in our community is actually through drinking and driving and being on the roadways,” Jennings said. “We make sure we do everything we can to prevent that and hold people accountable if they're causing that danger.”

Jennings also wanted to highlight the homicide that occurred this week.

“We had a really good run there,” Jennings said. “We hadn't had a homicide since last November, and that's about as long as we've gone in a decade. Unfortunately, that streak was broken this weekend. Our hearts go out to the victim of that offense. It's still under investigation, and we'll put all our might and resources behind prosecuting that case to the fullest extent that we can.”

The Missoula County Attorney’s Office provides a weekly crime report every Friday morning at 9:00 on Talk Back. You can listen to Jennings' full report below:
