Montana Still Has One of the Best Bakeries In the Country
The smell of something baking in an oven brings back some of my favorite memories. For me, baked goods are comfort foods. There is just something special about a fresh baked loaf of bread and some good cheese or butter. It brings people together.
Montana has it's share of some very good bakeries and bakers. One baker to keep an eye on is Sarah Hemenway, out of Lolo, who has competed multiple times in baking shows on the Food Network. Her creations and cookie decorating skills are simply amazing.
Billings Bakery One of the Best in the Nation
There is a bakery in Montana that continues to stand out among the best. In case you missed it, Food and Wine created a list of the top "100 Best Bakeries in America" back in 2020 and the Le Fournil Billings bakery made the list. Even though the list was compiled back in 2020, a quick Google search shows the article is still being referenced today.

Le Fournil is still open Wednesdays through Saturdays making some of the best French artisan bread you will find anywhere, not just in Montana. Le Fournil has 5-star reviews on both Yelp and Trip Advisor.
My baking hobby leans more towards sweets like cookies, and shortbreads. One of these days I hope to try my hand at making some fresh sourdough bread in my own oven. I have heard that it can take a while to perfect a good sourdough loaf of bread and that for some people it can become an obsession. If that is the case, there are much worse obsessions to have. Maybe I will grab my apron, turn on my oven and give it a try.
