Speaking of competition, Montana is expanding high school baseball in the spring of 2025. Missoula and Billings are both going to be adding multiple teams into league next year. There is an excitement in the state as college and high school football gears up for a new season.
High School Competitive BBQ
There is a different kind of competition, that I think would be totally cool to see some Montana high school students be a part of. Texas has high school barbecue teams that compete for a state barbecue championship. I had no idea this existed. There is going be docuseries following the teens as they participate in competitive barbecuing, according to People magazine.
Montana Should Start This Competition
Montana doesn't have a state high school barbecue competition, yet. I think it is time for someone to start one. Not everyone is athletic or can compete in team sports. This would be a chance for kids to shine, and learn to cook some great barbecue at the same time. There are plenty opportunities for the schools to get together for a state-wide competition. There area fairs or festivals that would be ideal locations for this kind of event.
Not only would the kids learn about how to cook and grill, which are great life skills to have, but they could also incorporate learning about livestock and ranching. Two things that are very important to Montana's economy for future generations. Montana doesn't have nearly the population of Texas, but we have some pretty talented kids and some great BBQ here, let's figure out a way to make something like this work in Montana.
