Griz Hope to Swat the Hornets in a Crucial Big Sky Battle

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - Shake it off and regroup, Griz. One loss does not define a team. Our University of Montana Grizzlies will hit the road this weekend with a chance to right the ship. Coming off their first loss of the season, the No. 7 Griz will head to California to take on the No. 2/3 Sacramento State Hornets under the lights Saturday night at 9 p.m. on ESPN 2. 

The Griz enter the game with a 5-1 record this season. In their last game, they got beat in all three phases by the Idaho Vandals 30-23. However, Montana has still outscored its opponents by a combined total of 224-87 this year. Still, the Griz dropped to No. 7 in both the Stats Perform media poll and the AFCA coaches' poll. 

Defending Big Sky Champs

The Hornets are 6-0 this year and are coming off their biggest win of the season so far. Last week, they exploded on offense for a 52-28 win against Eastern Washington on the red turf. For those that don’t know, the Hornets won the Big Sky title last year and they have been swarming their opponents this season. They enter the week with one of the top-25 defenses in the FCS, allowing opponents an average of just 20 points per game. 

Sac State will be fired up this weekend. This is their first national television appearance and they are currently tied for their best start in program history. The Griz will look to crash the party Saturday night and they better if they want to climb back to the top of the Big Sky mountain.

Montana returns to prime time this week in a nationwide broadcast on ESPN2. The game will be available on most basic cable, streaming, and satellite packages around the country. However, the game will not be streamed on ESPN+. A stream will be available on the ESPN App, with a login required from a cable, streaming, or satellite provider.
