The NFL Preseason began last week. It's the time of year when football fans are eager to have the game back in their lives but also worry about their team's star player going down with an injury in a mostly meaningless game.

But the NFL Preseason is also an intriguing time for players vying for a spot on the 53-man roster. There's an extra layer of excitement for Griz fans when their former favorite college players compete for said spots. Montana has four dudes competing for spots entering the season and three saw action last weekend. One reached an epic milestone that most people will only dream of.

Alex Gubner records first NFL tackle

I don't care that it's the preseason. It's crazy impressive to record a tackle in the National Football League. Last year's Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Year Alex Gubner did just that against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Keep your eye on big number 98.

Patrick O'Connell is back in the game

After spending his first season with the Seattle Seahawks, O'Connell is back getting Preseason reps. The former Griz linebacker recorded a pair of tackles with a pass deflection on Saturday against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Dylan Cook continues his quest

The next goal for Dylan Cook is to appear in an NFL regular season. Steelers Now detailed Cook taking on a new role in the Steelers offense: The Swing Tackle (AKA, the Nipple Rubber... no seriously). Cook saw 18 total snaps in the preseason game against the Houston Texans, 17 of those on offense.

Samori Toure on the reception

Samori Toure's Green Bay Packers scored just two plays in against the Cleveland Browns with the first teamers. The starters didn't play for long, so Toure got some decent playing time. He saw 20 snaps (31% of the plays), hauled in a reception and was targeted twice. Toure will be in a heated battle to make the Packers' opening-day roster with a deep receiver core.
