Gee Gains New Position Nationally

Montana Senior Associate AD and Senior Woman Administrator Jean Gee has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Council.  Gee, who oversees the department’s academic and compliance services, has served in her current role at Montana since 2004. She began working at her alma mater in 1991.

Gee takes over the Big Sky Conference’s spot on the 40-person Council for Bill Chaves, the former Eastern Washington AD who was hired last month for the same position at North Dakota. The NCAA Division I Council is made up of 40 members: a representative from each of the NCAA’s 32 Division I conferences, four commissioners, two student-athletes and two faculty athletics representatives. The Council is one of five committees that serve under the Board of Directors, Division I’s highest-ranking body. The others are the Committee on Infractions, the Infractions Appeals Committee, the Presidential Forum and the Committee on Academics.

The Council meets at NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis three or four times a year. Gee will also serve on one of the Council’s subcommittees. The Council handles day-to-day decision-making for NCAA Division I issues, with a more specific scope of legislative issues that arise. The chair of the Division I Council is Blake James, the AD at Miami.
Gee will complete the final few months of Chaves’ appointment, then begin her own four-year term on July 1.
